What are you working on at the moment?

I am currently working towards an exhibition 'South London Purgatory System' that I have organised at Le Garage Gallery 115 Dulwich Rd SE24 0NG, from the 19th of October to the 1st of November.

The show will consist of paintings, screen prints and life-sized, personalized replica bus stops. The paintings are a mixture of still lifes  – some people paint fruit and flowers, I paint tatty old 7" singles, life-size and super-sized – and landscapes of Brockwell Park and other Brixton locations.

Does where you live have an influence on your work?

I suppose presently 60% of my work is directly related to the Brixton area, so I would say yes, where I live does have a major influence on my art. 

Do you keep your style consistent or is it something you continually develop?

The replica bus stops are made from hardboard, wood and glue and then painted to resemble a typical London bus stop but with atypical desinations. So this is a departure for me into 3D work whick I'm very excited about.

Aside from that I think my style is fairly consistent. I can range from almost photorealist paintings to more Edward Bawden influenced screenprints of Barry White in Brixton, but I'm very comftable with my slightly eclectic output.

Where does your inspiration come from?

My inspiration comes from many areas. The sky features a lot in my work and we are blessed with many changing skies, so shifting clouds, sunsets, twilight, sunrise and grey overcast skies are a constant source of fascination. Aside from that books, records, poems and generally just walking and looking around are all the inspiration I need.

I like to think of my work as celebrating small objects, events and scenes from the passing world.
